Who we are

Comments
When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. See Gravatar’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile image (if any) is visible to the public with your comment.
Media
If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract location data from images on the site.
Cookies
- If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These last for one year.
- If you visit the login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies; it contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
- When you log in, we set cookies to save your login and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days; screen options cookies last one year. If you select “Remember Me,” login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.
- If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser indicating the post ID of the article you edited; it expires after one day.
- We use CookieAdmin to present a cookie banner and manage your consent preferences. Some cookies are essential; others (analytics, advertising/affiliate) are optional and controlled via CookieAdmin. A Cookie Preferences link may appear in the footer.
- Through Google Analytics (implemented via Site Kit by Google) and ad scripts placed with Ad Inserter, additional cookies may be set to measure usage and attribute referrals/ads. You can control cookies in your browser and via CookieAdmin.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited the other website. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking if you are logged into that website.
Who we share your data with
- If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
- Service providers that help operate the site (hosting, security, email delivery via GoSMTP, analytics via Google Analytics/Site Kit, consent management via CookieAdmin) may process limited personal data under agreements requiring appropriate protections.
- Affiliate & advertising partners: We participate in AWIN and may place ad/affiliate scripts via Ad Inserter. These partners may receive cookies or event data to attribute referrals and measure performance. We do not sell personal information for money.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-ups automatically.
For registered users (if any), we store the personal information provided in user profiles. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except the username). Site administrators can also see and edit that information.
Server/security logs may be retained for up to 90 days for fraud and abuse prevention.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that we erase personal data we hold about you, excluding data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Analytics and affiliate/advertising data may be processed by providers on servers located outside your region, subject to appropriate safeguards.
Analytics & affiliates
We use Google Analytics (via Site Kit by Google) to understand site usage and improve content. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes usage data as described in Google’s policies.
We participate in AWIN affiliate programs. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. AWIN may set cookies to attribute referrals.
Ad/affiliate scripts are placed with Ad Inserter; the specific networks or merchants may vary over time. Use your browser settings and the CookieAdmin Cookie Preferences to manage consent.
Email & messaging
We send transactional messages (e.g., password resets, form confirmations) using GoSMTP, which relays messages to our mail provider. Basic delivery logs may be kept for troubleshooting.
How we protect your data
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the data (encrypted connections, access controls, backups, least-privilege admin). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
